Lugano has become quite a modern city on the shores of the eponymous lake. Its historical centre, however, holds numerous artistic, cultural, historical and religious sites, which definitively should be part of a visitor’s program.
Our guided tour makes its way through the heart of the historical centre, in a maze of narrow streets lined with gastronomical shops, historical cafés and modern boutiques. Along the way, your guide will share anecdotes and historical information, and point out to you extraordinary and buildings details that you might miss on your own.
At the splendid church of Santa Maria degli Angioli, of unique architecture, we will admire the magnificent painting of the Passion of Christ, by Bernardino Luini, dating back to the early 16th century. Today the site is a Swiss National Monument.
Walking along the lake, we reach the embarcadero, where we board the boat for a nice cruise in the Gulf of Lugano. We will skirt the lakeshore to the charming fishing village of Gandria, near the border with Italy, cross over to the opposite side of the lake, and admire the splendid natural environment surrounding the city. We pass Campione d’Italia, an Italian enclave in Swiss territory, before crossing the lake, again, and making our way back towards Lugano.
Lunch will be in a traditional restaurant either in Lugano or across the lake, at one of the few typical “Grottos”, where you can taste the esquisite local cuisine. There is also the opportunity to have lunch on the boat. This is contingent onthe time of the year.
We can customize this tour to your liking, and we can combine it with any of our other tours in Ticino.
