Still quite undiscovered by mass tourism, the Langhe are a magical land of vast horizons and breathtaking panoramas, where ancient castles and hilltop towns crown the gentle slopes of vineyards; a land that speaks to you through its gentleness and silence—just like the Piemontese, a very reserved but proud people who will speak to you through their soul, if you are willing to listen. Here one can still appreciate the authentic Italian flavor, exceptional food, heartfelt traditions and culture. The captivating landscape of ondulating hills framed by stark mountains will embrace us with its atmosphere and colors. Visits to medieval castles, fortresses, and enchanting villages will introduce us to a rich culture and complex history. All along, wide open panoramas spanning from the hills and Appennini Mountains to the Alps, will accompany us in our exploration. You’ll savor the simple but extraordinary regional gastronomy at family-run restaurants or osterias recognized by the SlowFood movement for their exquisite traditional Piemontese cuisine, and for their commitment to sustainable farming and agriculture. You’ll taste celebrated wines—Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, to name a few—in boutique cantinas and renowned wine cellars.
We then venture to the valleys at the foot of Monviso. Known to the locals as “the king of stone” or “the Mont Blanc of the southern Alps, at an altitude of (3841 m/12602 ft). Monviso for centuries was believed to be the highest peak in the Alps. First climbed by the British William Mathews, saw the first successful Italian ascent on August 12, 1863, led by Quintino Sella. Today, this elegant mountain dominates the whole chain of the Cozie Alps and the lower plains, from Cuneo and Saluzzo (its city par excellence) all the way to Torino. At its feet, rugged and remote valleys, dotted with small enchanting hamlets, hold on to their traditions and culture, while from its spring, the Po River, the longest river in Italy, starts its 430-mile journey to the Adriatic Sea.
* there is no obligation to wine taste; therefore, this trip is ideal for everyone. We’d be happy to customize the itinerary for private groups who prefer a wine tasting tour.
