Piemonte for Women

An extraordinary walking and hiking journey through the Langhe and the Roero, two pristine regions nestled in the southern corner of Piemonte (a.k.a. Piedmont), Italy’s wine country. This is a magical land of vast horizons and breathtaking panoramas, where ancient castles and hilltop towns stand guard over gentle slopes of vineyards that generously yield sumptuous Italian wines (including Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo!). A land where women have played a major, crucial role in the local history, culture and traditions: from pillars of the farming communities, enduring back-breaking work, to messengers and nurturers during the Italian Resistance, placing their lives on the line of fire; from “powerful” women burned at the stake as witches, to key characters in the some of the most renowned local literature. Unique activities allow you to see this exceptional place from the perspective of the women of Langa and Roero. You learn about the role they had both in literature and in history, as Partisan messengers during the Italian Resistance. A couple of cooking classes with women of Langa introduce you to the secrets of the local gastronomy; an excursion in Roero takes you in the footsteps of the Masche, local peasants who, in the popular imagination, had the resemblance of old ladies and played tricks on passersby in the woods, at dusk or at night; you spoil your body with a “wine therapy” treatment at a local spa; you visit medieval castles, fortresses and enchanting villages, where you have the opportunity to do some wine tasting in boutique cantinas and renowned wine cellars. The trip ends with an unusual guided tour of Torino’s “magical” sites.
In fact, this elegant and beautiful baroque city is renowned for its esoteric character.
