Our hotel categories vary based on the tour and the areas we visit. Some regions are well set-up for luxury, others comply with our required quality standards, yet maintaining simplicity and authenticity.
We offer personalized, custom and private tours. We work with our clients to satisfy their requirements and needs.
Extreme luxury, complete indulgence at times are a well-deserved treat. Absolute pampering may be the perfect ingredient for a special celebration. We generally book five-star hotels upon request, for private groups or personalized tours. Nonetheless, we work with hotels that comply with our “boutique”category standards.
Four- and Three-star Hotels
On the majority of our trips, accommodations are in elegant superior and classic four- and three-star boutique hotels. Several of our trips feature exquisite villa compounds, or small hamlets converted into wonderful lodging. These are perfectly located on hilltops and surrounded by silence and tranquillity. Most facilities have outdoor pools.
We always request spacious rooms, generally of higher category, with all the comforts and amenities, such as air conditioning, flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, minibars.
On our Italian trips, at times we overnight in an agriturismo. As the name of these accommodations suggests, “agricultural tourism” is a form of Italian tourism where the traveller overnights in a working farm compound. The farm is not limited to animals. In fact, it can be a wine or olive oil producer. Originally, accommodations in these structures were very basic. Today, they vary considerably. The “agriturismi” (plural) we patronize are sophisticated, with newly renovated, spacious rooms, with an elegant touch, offering all the comforts. Most are located on very panoramic grounds, and some have a swimming pool. Accommodations are generally at a short distance from the working farm itself, thus guaranteeing a peaceful and quiet environment.
To be considered an agriturismo, the farm must abide to some specific regulations. Amongst them, the obligation to serve meals that consists mostly of own products and of products coming from farms in the immediate surroundings. Preference is given to typical and traditional products, recognized by Italian warranty marks such as DOP, IGP, IGT, DOC e DOCG.
On some of our hiking and trekking tours we overnight at simple mountain hotels/inns, at higher elevations. Even in these circumstances we pick the best. If at all possible, despite the fact that we are in the mountains, we opt for accommodations of a higher standard. In any case, we choose lodging facilities that are in harmony with the natural environment, and which enhance the authentic atmosphere of the places we visit. Most are family run
Mountain hotels/inns are simple, very comfortable and clean. All rooms have private bathrooms with shower, but very few ameniies. Televisions are usually small and offering very few channels. Air-conditioning is not available at hotels/inns located at higher elevations (500 m/1600 ft and up), where temperatures naturally cool down at night.
Rifugios (mountain huts) are located at higher elevations (1500 m/4500 ft and higher), providing a fantastic opportunity to experience the real flavor of the mountains. Their location in spectacular, remote settings, with splendid panoramas make up for their rustic but intimate atmosphere. Rooms are generally co-ed and dormitory-style, with bunk beds or platforms with mattresses. Bathrooms and showers are shared. We always request double rooms, where available.
